Oakwood Aveneue - New Milton

Our recently completed project perfectly embodies the design brief provided by our client, who sought a light, contemporary open-plan kitchen and interior that feels both homely and warm. The project reflects a luxurious Scandinavian aesthetic, incorporating wooden elements, panelling, and white hues to create a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere.

Collaboration & Design

Working closely with the client, who is both the homeowner and operates a local design and build company, was essential to ensuring the vision was executed perfectly. Their expertise and clear vision significantly aided the design process and project collaboration, resulting in a cohesive and functional outcome that met all their needs and preferences. Collaborating with such a renowned local building firm was not only a privilege but also an enriching experience.

Given the luxury contemporary theme with Scandinavian elements, we explored several kitchen layouts. We decided to inset the tower units into a plastered frame, creating the illusion that the larder units were set into the wall. This approach provided a clean finish and served as a stunning focal point, with different sun angles highlighting the staggered skylight directly above the walkway between the tall units and the expansive peninsula design. It was imperative that the cooking area had a direct view of the newly landscaped garden and was within the vicinity of the dining area.

The Execution

Once the preferred design layout was finalized, we shifted our focus to the kitchen finishes, brands, and colour palettes. After evaluating different manufacturers, Pronorm emerged as the clear choice. Pronorm offers an extensive range of door finishes across four different cabinet ranges, ensuring that clients do not need to compromise on their preferred door finish or kitchen range.

As Pronorm is our exclusive brand for the South Coast, we selected the Y-LINE detail with black milling in the door profile, adding subtle black accents to the kitchen. The doors were finished in Lacquered Arctic White, complementing the wall colour and other interior finishes. Additionally, the doors were edged with an open wood grain to reflect the birch ply element specified in the design brief.

To align with the Scandinavian theme, we explored many wood finishes for featured areas, and the client opted for birch ply. Working with this client was advantageous as they are not only the homeowner but also operate a successful local design and build company. They love wood panelling feature walls and wanted this detail to extend from the exterior into the hallway and kitchen area.

The peninsula spanned 3.6 meters in length, with the cabinets below providing optimal storage, including wide pan drawers, interior bins, and a dishwasher beside the sink. The setup was finished with a bespoke Mired herb box integrated into the Dekton worktop. Other design elements included using the wall cladding on the back of the island to balance the client’s choice of bar stools and pendant lighting in the dining area.

The kitchen colour scheme was then extended to the TV and living room. In the living area, the client had this space commissioned by one of his skilled employees but collaborated with us using our design to provide one cohesive finished product.
